Join renowned Canadian artists Sharon Fox Cranston and Kato Wake for an inspiring week-long painting retreat in the stunning Algarve region of Portugal, near the charming town of Tavira. A rare opportunity to hone your painting skills at a private rural estate while immersing yourselves in the rich culture of Portugal.

Sharon and Kato have over 60 years combined teaching and art practice, and you will benefit from dual perspectives that encourage open discussion and problem-solving. This painting holiday is designed for artists ready to step out of their comfort zones and explore new techniques through playful, creative exercises. Students will focus on developing their artwork by exploring essential principles such as composition, values, colour harmonies, simplicity, and mark making.

Each morning features focused lessons, while the afternoons are dedicated to applying these concepts to your own work – in the studio or plein air, with gentle guidance and one-on-one feedback. The day concludes with recap sessions, Q&A, and lively discussions to deepen your understanding and foster a collaborative learning environment. Experiment with your chosen medium and style – watercolour, acrylic, or other media. A supply list will be available upon registration, and many supplies will be included to help make your travels stress-free.

The venue is arty and sensual, so of course there will be chill out time to soak up the beauty and indulge – you’re in Portugal after all! A few excursions are planned, and you can expect to experience a well organized, FUN and inspired week, with beautiful en-suite accommodation, and delicious food and wine.

Unfortunately we cannot accept complete beginners for this retreat.
Non-painting partners are welcome and will be given suggestions to explore nearby towns.
